Senior Backend Engineer (Go)
Design and operate the Go services behind our payments, credit and healthcare platforms — to a production standard, with the observability to prove it.
What you'll do
- Own services end to end: written design → code → tests → deploy → on-call.
- Model financial and regulated flows correctly, idempotently, and safely.
- Write the design before the code; no service ships without one.
- Instrument what you build (metrics, logs, traces) so quality is observable.
- Review pull requests and mentor Institute engineers as they come through.
What we're looking for
- 4+ years building backend systems, with strong, current Go.
- Solid relational data modelling (Postgres) and API/event-driven design.
- A correctness mindset for money- or compliance-sensitive domains.
- Comfortable owning production: deployments, incidents, and the fixes after.
Nice to have
- Payments or lending experience
- NATS / event streaming
- Docker, Hetzner, Kubernetes
- CBN / NDPA awareness
What success looks like in 90 days
- Shipped a meaningful service or subsystem to production.
- Had at least one design doc adopted by the team.
- Removed a real operational pain — alert noise, latency, or a flaky path.
